My Zoom livestream or replay video is frozen, speeds up or slows down – what could be done to fix it? Understanding and addressing these several factors can fix the lagging issues you’re experiencing when live-streaming or watching the replay:

1. Poor internet connection or slow internet speeds:

  • If you are using a phone to watch the livestream or replay, WiFi connection is highly recommended over mobile networks.

  • Verify that your Wi-Fi or mobile data signal is strong: You can test your internet download speed by going to https://fast.com/

A good download speed for watching a livestream or replay depends on the quality of the video you want to watch:

  • Standard definition (SD): A download speed of around 3 Mbps is usually enough

  • HD: A download speed of 5-8 Mbps is recommended

  • Ultra-HD or 4K: A download speed of at least 25 Mbps is recommended

  • Consider using 5G or high-speed Wi-Fi connections if available for a smoother experience.

Suggestions:

  • Close all other apps on your device that are running in the background, they could be consuming bandwidth. This will free up more bandwidth for livestreaming or watching the relay.

  • Log other devices off of WiFi: If multiple devices are actively using WiFi, such as TV's, phones, tablets, computers, etc. this can weaken WiFi signal and create a lag.

  • Sometimes, a simple router restart can refresh your internet connection and improve speed.

  • If you're in an area with poor signal reception, consider using a signal booster or Wi-Fi extender to enhance your connectivity.

  • Watch the replay via the ZOOM link: As an alternative solution, you can also access the replay via the link posted in t he ZOOM chat, which is hosted by ZOOM rather than Manpreet's website, and see if that helps. You must request to join the chat via the link provided in your registration email.

2. Outdated Zoom app (livestream only):

  • Update Zoom to the Latest Version:

  • Launch the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • In the Store, type Zoom in the search bar.

  • If you have the Update button on Zoom's app page, tap on it update the app

3. Insufficient storage available on your phone:

  • To see how much storage, you have on your phone, you can go to your phone's Settings and look for the Storage option

4. Consider logging in on another device to test if the issue persists on different hardware.

Other Considerations:

  • Weather: Rain and fog. Rainwater can absorb and scatter wireless signals (especially satellite or fixed wireless), reducing speed and stability.

  • Airplanes: Low-flying aircraft can cause temporary disruptions to ground-based Wi-Fi and cellular signals
